I am in love with Martha Stewart Paper Punches. I’ve been using them in my projects whenever I get the chance. What I love so much about the Monarch Butterfly punch is that it not only gives you a customizable embellishment with the detailed butterfly, but that you can use the negative space left behind to create beautiful things as well.
The main tools I used for this card were MS Monarch Butterfly Punch and Copic ABS2.
I cut a strip of paper to the size of my greeting card and punched three butterflies in it.
I then airbrushed BOTH the butterflies AND the strip of paper they were punched from. I used Copic Markers V06 and RV 34. Airbrushing works best when you use really vivid colors. I first sprayed on V06. I let it dry a little, then went back and forth with the Colorless blender. I let the blender distress the V06 and then I sprayed on the RV34.
One mistake that I made was to use cheaper cardstock. I thought that if I wasn’t blending, it wouldn’t make much of a difference. I was wrong, as the edges of the punch became a little frayed once the ink was sprayed on.
After the airbrushing was done, I embellished the butterflies further with a clear atyou Spica. I doodled a design on the negative punch strip with a Wine Colored Copic Multiliner.
Then I stamped my card with a sentiment. I wanted it to look a little vintage, so I used sepia ink. Yes, I did make this card open backwards. No, it was not on purpose. I’m telling myself I did it subconcsiously due to the recipient’s affinity for Manga.
Then I secured my custom embellishments with Xpress It tape. Et viola, I had a one of a kind, backwards card!
Here’s a close up of the finished embellishments:
And of course, no post is complete without a freebie! Thanks for stopping by!

Your card is beautiful. I love the Martha Stewart punches also. I’m still trying to teach myself to use the Copic markers – so not sure I am quite ready to air brush. This such a pretty vase of star lilies. Thank you!
Love the punches too!! I use them when I am too lazy to design with the Expression Machine!! Thanks Colleen!!
Missed you at the Intermediate Class in Phoenix. I think I have a solution for masking the leaves while airbrushing the flower using the MS waterlily punch.
I cut out 5 one inch scalloped circles with an old Friskars punch. I then position them under the flower pedal covering up the leaves. Hope this helps, you are awesome!!
A lovely, non-cute freebie. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
