Mixed Media Canvas and A Digi Freebie

Many of us are on a budget this Christmas, so I’ve come up with a quick, fun and lovely craft project that’s easy to create and beautiful to give. Here’s what you’ll need:

Pre Stretched Canvas, smaller works better.
Copic Various Ink in Colors of your choice
Clean sponge (you can use one kitchen one and cut it up)
Photos (optional)
Embellishments
Distress Stickles Rock Candy by Ranger Ink (optional)
Ribbon
Xpress It Tape
Vellum Sentiments
Copic Colorless Blender Solution in a spray bottle

Here’s how you start:

Drip some ink onto your sponge and apply it to the canvas. You can use the sponge to create different textures, or to blend ink colors together a little more smoothly. For an extra distressed look, you can drip the ink right onto the canvas. After the ink dries a little, you can spray it with the blender solution to give it a distressed look. Here’s what one of my canvases looked like after it was inked.
After that, you can decorate to your heart’s content. I’ll explain under each photo how I embellished the canvas.

Mixed Media Copic ProjectFor this canvas, I added three pictures of my children, secured onto the canvas with Xpress It double sided tape, that stuff sticks to ANYTHING!! I doodled the trees and leaves with my Copic Markers, E37, E29, G82, G85.  I also doodled a little Y17 in the corner to give it a sunny look. After that I added die cut embellishments. I took the Y17 marker and made little dots coming down from the bees. I covered the dots with the Distress Stickles for some sparkle. I also added the stickle to the leaves. I added a ribbon at the bottom et viola!

This one is a little stocking stuffer for my sister. I added the centerpiece embellishment, and some paper flowers secured with a brad. I doodled the leaves and flowers with Copic Markers G82 and RV34. I added some Distress Stickle dots around the curves of the centerpiece.

This last one is my favorite. It just looks warm and sunny, just like hope feels. I secured the vellum sentiment with Xpress it tape, and colored the side with Copic RV34. I then added the Distress Stickles to the edge. I doodled the vine and leaves with Copic Markers G82 and G85. I added die cut embellishments, and then added a ribbon to the bottom. I drew dots with Copic RV34, and then covered each dot with the Distress Stickle for shine. Perfect present for my grandparents from my kids!

I hope you have fun and enjoy the different things you can do with your Copics! If you’d like to create your own embellishments, here’s a fun freebie or two to get you started!

Home Made Advent Calendar Tutorial

Hi Everyone!

I’m a few days late with this post but I was on time getting the Advent Calendar up for the kids to play with! We also set the Elf on the Shelf loose last night, my oldest daughter named him “Jingle Bell”.

I wanted to share our Advent Calendar with you because my oldest and I paper crafted it together. It came in a kit made by DCVW, but if you have a decent sized scrapbooking stash, I bet you’ve got all of the material on hand. Even if you don’t get it finished in time for this year, it will be a fun holiday craft you can store and have all ready for next year!

Here’s what you need:

2 12×12 chip board sheets
Patterned paper
Ribbon
Brads
Christmas Embellishments
Number Stickers

Cover your 12 x12 chip board with holiday paper. The simpler the pattern, the better.

Begin by cutting 25 paper pouches out of some patterned paper. A rectangle folded in half will do just fine. Make sure to cut 5 pouches out a little smaller, you will need to get 5 envelopes on the last line of your calendar (numbers 21 through 25).

Embellish each envelope and include a number (1 through 25, in case that needed explaining).

Line up your envelopes on your chip board and adhere solidly. Punch a hole in each corner of the chip board. Secure a ribbon along the top with brads, make sure your bow is pretty, that’s where you’ll hang your calendar.

Punch holes in the lower corners of your top chip board, and the upper corners of your lower chip board and secure together with ribbons and brads.

Fill your envelopes with Christmas treats. I used stickers, jelly beans and tootsie rolls.

Hang up, and count down the days until Christmas! Here’s a finished picture of our calendar!

Christmas Card Drive for Recovering Soldiers

One of the best parts of my day job is that I’m part of a dental team that makes things happen. When I first started working at Hopkins Aesthetic & Reconstructive Dentistry  5 years ago, I was immediately impressed by the office culture. Dr. Mike has built his career on helping others. He has donated dentistry in Haiti, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Bosnia. He has organized charity dentistry days here in our community.

When we first understood that all of the head, neck and spine traumas from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were being treated right here in Tampa, we knew we wanted to do something for them. The result: our Holiday Card Drive.

Our drive has been successful every year, but this year, with the help of CMS, and all of our fine crafty friends, we are having our best year yet. We just wanted to recognize on special lady that has gone above and beyond sharing her time and her talent.

Ms. Alicia Baldwin has sent in over 100 Christmas Cards!!  Check them out!

Alicia's Cards

If you’d like to participate in this event, there is still time. Your cards must be postmarked by December 11th. Please address the outer envelope as follows:

I hope you’ll all consider participating!

Good Morning everyone! I just wanted to share a few things this morning, and then some freebies.

Finished Project from Advanced Class, Free Christmas Digi

Last week the ladies in our Advanced Copic Class and I partially colored in Mrs. Claus. (This is a free digi stamp from Beccy’s Place, one of my favorite digi artists!) We were wrapping up the class by learning a little about light source, though we primarily focused on techniques for coloring black and white. As we were running out of time, we only partially colored her.

I promised to finish her up and post her for them to see. The Copic colors I used were: R24, R59, R89, G82, G85, G28, Y23, Y26, Y28, C00, C1, C3, C5, E25, E29, E33, E35, E37, Y11, Y0000, Y15, Y17, YR18, YR16.

I really enjoyed coloring her, I hope you ladies did too! See you next month in Advanced Copic Class!

We’ve got some more digi freebies today too! Happy Christmas crafting!
