Beautiful Botanicals… and our very first Guest Designer!

Hi everyone! I hope you’ve all had a great weekend. It was a big week around here, my mom and I both celebrated birthdays (I turned 30! I’m still not sure how I feel about that!).

Our Design Team ran into a bit of a snag with this beautiful set (great job Kathie!) as one of our girls is on her honeymoon (Congrats Di!) and another is without computer (We miss you Peggy!). Becky was awesome and made an extra project, but I was stressing a little, until my mom said she’d help out. She had colored with me once before, and she’d NEVER made a card.

We spent a fun afternoon together, coloring and making cards. I am SO proud of how well she did! Without further ado, here’s the card created by our very first guest designer: My mom, Philomena!

Our talented DT did a bang up job as usual, check them out!

Spotlight on the Design Team: Becky G. (Freebie too!)

Hi Everyone! Today our spotlight is on DT Member Becky! Becky joined us this year and has been such a great addition to the team. She colors beautifully and she brings lots of fun and talent with all of her projects. The project we’re highlighting today is her “Smash Book”. Check it out!

Over the weekend I saw on my friend Beki’s facebook page a youtube video by Jenn on making a smash book, and it looked like alot of fun so I decided to try it and since this was the first and was gonna be for me I pulled out some of my favorite papers that I had put off using because I didn’t want to cut it, you know that paper that you are saving for just the right occasion. I made a couple of mistakes, mostly with my Bind-it-all but they are things I can hide from myself and the whole book makes me happy. I love dragonflies, so any paper I had with them is in here. These are all kinds of paper, not sure who makes some of them, I did 5 sections in mine, Quotes, sketched, notes, copic drawing and stamping, and random & saved things. I hope you all like this, this is how I spent my Sunday. I did some clear pockets and some envelopes also to hold stuff and there are some pockets also.

If you’d like to see more of Becky’s fantastic work, visit her blog: Stamping with Bekah.

If you’re getting in the holiday mood, here’s a fun freebie to help you out:

Spotlight on the Design Team: Christina Sedor (Plus a digi freebie)

This week’s spotlight is on DT member Christina Sedor. Christina  has been a member of our DT for over a year. She is always bright and enthusiastic, and the first to jump in and help when asked!

Christina’s featured project is a Pressed Flower Ornament, here’s what she has to say about it:

Pressed Flower Ornament

This is one of my favourite projects, the Pressed Flower Ornament, which I place out on display in our home. It reminds me of summer, my grandpa who has passed on, his favourite flower was pansies, and I love everything about flowers, and try to incorporate them in most of my projects. I have created other pressed flower ornaments which I hang from our Christmas Tree.

Pressed Flower Ornaments are alot of fun to make, they usually take a few months to finish. First I pick flowers from our garden and my mom’s. Then I press them, I use an atlas, it can press alot of flowers. In a couple weeks I check how they are doing, when they are pressed, I lay them out, choose any size of glass ornament, I use a matte medium to glue and overlap flowers, once ornament is covered, for a finishing look, I use a matte medium or you can use a gloss medium. When finished you have a unique, Pressed Flower Ornament.

We Still Love Guy Gondron! (Fundraiser and Freebie)

Many of you have been following Guy’s story, so I will be brief in my recap.

Several months ago, our artist Guy Gondron was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer of the tonsil. He’s undergone major surgery to remove the tumor. He has just completed some pretty harsh chemo and radiation. His doctors feel his prognosis will be a good one! Guy is still feeling pretty crummy as he recovers from chemo, and is unable to work at the moment. We have done previous fundraisers to help him cover his expenses. We love Guy, and we’re committed to being there for the long haul with him.

Guy was so kind as to doodle some stamps; “Get Well”. Apropos, don’t you think? Rather than selling these stamps through CMS as we normally do, I would like to turn your attention to his Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Protoguy?ref=seller_info

There you have several options… you can purchase each image singly, or you can buy larger sets. Every single purchase will go directly to Guy to help him with his medical expenses and cost of living as he recovers.

Here are some cute cards our Design Team cooked up to inspire you:

Spotlight on the Design Team: Diane L. (Plus a Freebie!)

Our Design Team is full of amazing ladies. Each one of them is so talented with their Copic coloring… but I got to wondering what else they enjoyed doing with their craft time. Luckily, they were willing to share their secrets!

Today’s spotlight is on Design Team Member Diane L. She joined our DT back in February and has created many beautiful projects for us. On a personal note, I’ve loved getting to know Diane and trading emails with her. She’s had a bit of a rough year medically, but she’s pulled through and maintained her charm and her humor through it all. She’s such a fun person to talk to!

When she’s not coloring with Copics, Diane enjoys creating 3D designs. Check out the beautiful wedding box that she created for her parent’s 59th Wedding Anniversary.

Copic Candle Making (Tutorial and Freebie)

Hello! I’ve had several emails in the past few days asking how I created my candle for our Summer Fun digital stamps. To be perfectly honest, I saw the project in a brochure in Hobby Lobby and just tweaked it a bit. Here’s my original project, followed by a simple tutorial on how to create a similar candle yourself.

What you will need:

1 plain candle (preferably not shiny)
1 stamp (rubber or digital, your choice)
1 piece of tissue paper
Copic Markers of your choice
Heat Tool
Adhesive

To begin stamp your image on the tissue paper. If you are using a digital stamp, you will have to carefully trace it onto the tissue paper with a copic multiliner.

Color in your image with your Copic Markers. Be careful not to oversaturate and tear the paper. Also make sure to lay down a scrap piece of paper underneath as the marker ink will go right through the tissue.  For this image I used Copic Markers: Y15, Y17, Y38, YR16, G21, G24, G28, E31.
Once you’ve finished coloring, cut out the stamped image. Position it on the candle using a minimal amount of adhesive.

Using the heat tool at 8-10 inches from your project, begin to heat the area where the tissue paper is. Stop when you see the candle becoming shiny. As the wax is heated and melts, it will absorb the tissue paper image into it.  Continue heating until all of the tissue paper is secured to the candle.  Et viola!

Custom Copic Colored Candle (How's THAT for alliteration?)

Here’s another one I did:

Penny Black Owl Stamp

Of course, here’s your freebie to make your own candle with, it’s my busy bees!
